BostonFIG debrief + general update!
A photo of Nick and his wife at the Daikon Games booth at BostonFIG. They are wearing matching purple Daikon sweatshirts and black masks. She is wearing a headband with miniature daikon radishes on the ends of springs.
Behind them is a banner for Daikon Games and another for Chico's Rebound which shows the game's key art and a QR code.
In front of them is a table with a purple table cloth, upon which is a small TV running the game Chico's Rebound, and some various small signage.

Hello everyone! We’re coming down now from the rush of BostonFIG this past Sunday, and I just wanted to write a quick post to talk about that experience along with some small announcements!

First of all, BostonFIG was a fantastic experience. It was my first time doing a game convention as an exhibitor rather than an attendee, and I will certainly never forget it. We got many many visitors to our booth and tons of people got hands-on with Chico’s Rebound (for the 8 hour duration of the festival, I don’t think there was ever more than a 5 minute stretch where nobody was visiting the booth). We got a lot of good feedback and notes which I will use to improve the game. I met a lot of nice people and had some great conversations, and I got to meet some folks that I had only ever interacted with online before, so that was really cool too!

And then somehow, we actually won a Figgie award for Chico’s Rebound for Excellence in Visual Art! I am still slightly in shock over this fact, but I will try to have less imposter-syndrome over my work going forward 😅

BostonFIG Demo for Patrons

Since we now have a nice demo which is much more polished than the 1st playtest build which Daikon Patreon patrons got access to in October, I will be making this demo available to patrons as well. I’m just going to fix up the obvious bugs and crashes that I have notes on from the festival first, but it should be available for them shortly. If you didn’t get a chance to play at the fest and want to try, you can hop onto our Patreon for $1/month!

Chico on sale in EU eShop

As of yesterday, and lasting until 12/29, Chico and the Magic Orchards is 40% off in the Nintendo eShop for UK/Europe/Australia! The timing of this relative to the 40% sale previously in the US eShop was just to align with that region’s big sale season, but regardless you can now finally go get it and join your American comrades in the fun!

Chico on Cassette!

Here’s another fun one, we got these new “cassettes” of Chico and the Magic Orchards DX for a physical commemorative edition of the game!

A photo of the new Chico DX physical cassette. It is a clear plastic cassette case with artwork inserted. The front shows Chico the Chipmunk in front of a colorful landscape, with the game's logo up top and a Daikon Games logo in the bottom-left. The rear of the case shows a few screenshots of the game and a short description, as well as a black USB stick which is visible inside the case

These are now on sale via our itch.io page, just scroll down until you see it under “Special Editions”! Supplies are limited, so if you’re into this jump on it!

That’s all for this update, thanks for reading and I hope you have a happy holiday season! I’ll catch up with you soon.
